Colombo's amazing Fort district still has the energy like in the late nineteenth century when the streets were teeming with ox carts and alive with the sounds and whiffs of the sea, as rubber, tea, cinnamon, kittul treacle, rope and peacocks were loaded aboard ships.
Taking a walking tour is one of the best things to do in Colombo city and Mark and his colleagues, natives from Colombo, have hosted walks in Colombo for several years under the Colombo City Walks banner.Starting at the Dutch Hospital Shopping Complex in Fort and walk along the old colonial streets, away from your usual tourist spots, and seek out the colonial Dutch mansions and be a part of the history that is now commercial hub of Colombo. Explore the old Cargills building, visit the New Chinese shop, snap a picture outside the Pagoda Tea Rooms where Duran Duran filmed their iconic music video, Hungry Like The Wolf, and enjoy a cup of Ceylon Tea on the balcony of the Grand Oriental Hotel while taking in the sunset views of the Colombo Harbour.End your walk back at the Dutch Hospital, formerly a hospital during the 17th century, the complex is now host to high-end restaurants, bars and shops. Relax, take a breather, admire the architecture, and have a drink… or two.

Optional: With an early start head to the Muthurajawela Lagoon in time for the boat ride (30mins). The experience will commence no later than 07.00 AM and would last for 2.5 hours, a packed breakfast will be arranged by the hotel this morning. You may bring along a Hat, Sun glasses, Sun cream & your Camera to make the most of your experience.
Muthurajawela Marsh evocatively translates as ‘Swamp of Royal Treasure’, a little-known gem of a wetland at the southern end of Negombo’s lagoon. The area was a rich rice-growing basin before the canal that was built, ruined the fields with seawater.
Over the centuries, Mother Nature turned Muthurajawela into Sri Lanka’s biggest saline wetland (the island’s largest peat bog), home to purple herons, cormorants and kingfishers. The wetlands provide a home to some 192 distinct species of flora and 209 species of fauna including the slender Loris and 102 species of birds as well as crocodiles, monkeys and even some rarely seen otters.
Proceeding we will head to Uda Walawe (4.30 hours). Pit stops will be made en route to ensure a smooth journey.
Upon arrival, rest and relax. This afternoon head for the safari at Uda Walawe National Park.
Dinner this evening will be arranged at the hotel upon arrival.

Spend this morning at leisure with a late breakfast. Heading to the pool will be a good way to keep the kids occupied and beat the heat too.
This afternoon we will make our way to Yala (1.5 hours). You lunch will be arranged en route this day at an authentic local restaurant. A kids menu will be available for those who would not prefer spicy food.
We will then head to the Yala National Park for a special safari experience for kids. During your game drive, the kids will be taught on bird watching techniques and spotting of local animal tracks. The experience will also end with a learning experience on how to spot burrows, identifying edible plants and basic navigation using the sun and moon..
Head back to the hotel in time for dinner.

This morning we will head to the Elephant transit in time for the elephant feeding. The entire experience would take no longer than 45 mins and would commence by 06.00AM.
Head back to the hotel in time for breakfast. We will head to Mount Lavinia (4.5 hours).
Upon arrival, rest and unwind. Spend the evening by the beach. If time permits, you could take part in the Museum & tunnel tour hosted by the Mount Lavinia hotel.
A tour which goes all the way back to the colonial age. A tale about two centuries of colonial heritage and a love story that immortalized the hotel.

This morning after breakfast we will head to the Bandaragama Go Karting circuit (50mins). Different types of Karts ranging from leisure karts to pro karts are available for both adults and kids.
And for those who are not fans of Karting the Bandaragama circuit offers a basketball court, swimming pool and an air riffle shooting area.
The largest karting circuit in Sri Lanka located in Bandaragama. The circuit comprises a 1216 -meter international racing track with multiple layouts also can run 2 different races simultaneously. Additionally, 171-metre kiddies’ rental track, designed and built to international specifications. Sri Lanka Karting Circuit provides the opportunity for karting enthusiasts to experience professional motorsports with the facility to practice and race as much as they want.
A fleet of rental karts and safety gear is made available for anyone who wants to try out the sport or simply have fun. Experience the excitement of air rifle shooting and a game of basketball too.
Lunch this afternoon will be arranged at the Paddock restaurant. Head back to the hotel this evening.
Late this evening we will head to the Colombo city to visit the highlights. You will be navigating the city in a Tuk Tuk to experience the local lifestyle and beat the traffic. Your evening will end with a mouthwatering range of street food at the Galle Face Green - A great place also to watch the locals and the art of kite flying.
